Fort William to Fort Augustus and back again. Is Banavie, a settlement beside the Caledonian Canal, located approximately 7 kilometres off the A830 and 4 miles from the centre of Fort William? There are a variety of places to stay, including hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses, and self-catering options. The village of Corpach may be seen from the boundary of Banavie. The landscape is very breathtaking all around Banavie, with Ben Nevis taking centre stage in the horizon. Spean Bridge, a village that takes its name from the High bridge over the River Spean on General Wade's military road between Fort William and Fort Augustus, Roy Bridge, and Torlundy are the main villages, along with other small hamlets and scattered housing. Spean Bridge got its name from the High bridge over the River Spean on General Wade's military road between Fort William and Fort Augustus. The majority of the area is made up of rocky moorland, and the little patches of arable land that are present are primarily used for forestry, sheep farming, deer hunting, and some cattle farming. There is a regular bus service that travels to Skye, Inverness, and Glasgow. On the West Highland line, there are train stations located at Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge, Tulloch, and Corrour. These stations are served by multiple trains to Glasgow each day, including the 8 o'clock night sleeper. From Roy Bridge, there is a local bus service to Fort William, but it is not as frequent as the one from Spean Bridge. In the parish of Boleskine and Abertarff, at the south west end of Loch Ness, the village is home to Neptune's Staircase, where to the north the canal enters the famous Loch Ness and into the village itself through a set of lock gates, with visiting boats and yachts using the Loch gates to go up and down accessing both the upper and lower lochs. The distance from Fort Augustus to Inverness is approximately 27 miles via the A82. Fort August The Great Glen Way hike takes hikers along an old towpath that runs along the canal from Fort Augustus to Gairlochy. From there, they continue on to Loch Lochy and then to Fort William. The Great Glen Way hike goes through the community. The first stage's challenge level is low. Follow the B8004 past Muirshearlich, a small hamlet located 4 miles north-east of Fort William in Lochaber, and Strone. Strone Viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the Caledonian Canal and the northern flank of the Ben Nevis Range, with Loch Linnhe and Fort William visible in the distance. The difficulty level of the second stage is low. Second Stage Information: After about 8 miles, you will come to the parish of Kilmonivaig, which is located to the north-east of Fort William. It is bounded on the west by the river Lochy and Loch Lochy, and on the east by the Nevis range of mountains as well as the Grey Corries, and it extends all the way to Corrour and Loch Laggan. Easy difficulty awaits you in the third stage. Third Stage Information: Then continue on to Gairlochy, a small hamlet located on the southern beaches of Loch Lochy, a huge freshwater loch located in the area of Lochaber about 7 miles down the A8004 to the A82 from Kilmonivaig.
