Visit Canvey Island Transport Museum

Canvey Island Transport Museum, the facility that is now home to the Museum was originally constructed in 1934 for the Canvey & District Motor Transport Co. Ltd. After being used by a number of other businesses of a similar nature, it was acquired by the Eastern National Omnibus Co. Ltd., which occupied it from 1978 until its closure in 1978.

After that, the Castle Point Transport Museum Society bought the leasehold of the depot, and then they went on to buy the freehold. Since then, they've put together a collection of over thirty commercial vehicles that have been preserved, and that collection is now the primary exhibit at the Canvey Island Transport Museum.

Classic examples of chassis made by manufacturers that are going out of business quickly, such as AEC, Bedford, Bristol, Guy, and Leyland, as well as iconic body builders like as Eastern Coach Works, Duple, Harrington, and Massey Brothers, are on display for visitors.

While several of the vehicles have undergone complete refurbishment, others are still in the process of being reconstructed and are having routine maintenance performed on them at our workshops or in the pit area.

Traditional methods, such as the fabrication of wood frames and the pounding of aluminium panels, are still in use today and can be seen by visitors. However, these methods have been mostly phased out in current automobile production in favour of pressed steel and moulded fibreglass.

In addition, there is a large selection of transport-related artefacts on show, as well as the museum's very own magnificent and fully operational model railroad layout. Die-cast models, souvenirs, and other items relating to transportation are available for purchase at the Museum shop.

After gazing at the buses for a few hours, my family and I walked upstairs to investigate the model train with our small son, who is quite interested in transportation. It was a wonderful bus collection housed in a little museum. You are only able to ride one or two of the buses because the vast majority of them are owned by private persons. This means that you have a limited number of options.
