Not for the faint hearted. there is a huge range of outdoor activities available around Fort William the mountains, forests, lochs and the North Sea all within easy reach so if you are interested in trying kayaking, go karting, canyoning, salmon fishing, quad biking, walking, sailing. From Fort William about 9 miles south east you will find Fort Dun Deardail a massive vitrified ruin you have Ben Nevis on your left, Nevis Forest on your right and the Stiell Falls Go along this road as far as the peat track that is part of the Cow Hill Circuit in the forest, at the top where it meets the West Highland Way several directions are signposted to get to this vitrified fort you take a long steady walk along the forest road, it stands on a hill west of the road at a height of 1,127 feet it measures 150 feet by 90 feet and in some places 50 feet thick there are some magnificent views from this point, Dun Deardail Fort is one in a line of vitrified forts that stretches from Craig Phadraig outside Inverness all the way down to the West Coast.
