The stately home is located in the Derbyshire Dales in England, approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-east of Bakewell and 9 miles (14 km) west of Chesterfield. Since 1549, the Cavendish family has owned this property, which serves as the seat of the Duke of Devonshire. It may be found on the east bank of the River Derwent, across from the hills that separate the Derwent and Wye valleys, in the middle of parkland that is backed by wooded hills that ascend to heather moorland, and between the Derwent and Wye valleys.
The mansion is home to important collections of works of art, including paintings, furniture, drawings by Old Masters, neoclassical sculptures, and literature. This Grade I listed home dates back to the 17th century but underwent renovations in the 18th and 19th centuries, earning it the title of "Britain's Favorite Country House" on multiple occasions. During 2011 and 2012, it was given a makeover that cost 14 million pounds. The Chatsworth House Trust, which is a separate charity foundation, is the owner of Chatsworth House on behalf of the Cavendish family.
