Smarden is a picturesque settlement that dates back to the Middle Ages. Smarden, located in the beautiful Kent countryside, became a component of the wool and textile trading lines with Europe via ports at Rye and Faversham during the reign of Edward III in the early fourteenth century.

Gomersham Park and Chilham Park are only two of the many grand estates that dot this area. Dover on the coast with views over to France and the fortified city of Canterbury, home to the Cathedral of Canterbury, are just two of the many interesting spots to visit in this area.

Tenterden and Cranbrook, two nearby picturesque villages, each feature a variety of independent retailers, antique and antiques shops, cafes, and restaurants. Speldhurst, Penshurst, and Leigh are three nearby ancient villages, each with its own shops, pubs, and attractions including Penshurst Manor. Penshurst is a terrific place for the whole family to spend the day since it is one of the best surviving examples of a mediaeval fortified manor home in the UK. The house has strong royal links and is full of history and intrigue that spans the centuries.

You may purchase your tickets and hear about the railway's history at the main station in the picturesque town of Tenterden, and then board a restored steam or diesel train to travel a route that has been in service for almost a century. This area is wonderful for a camping trip, B&B getaway, or even a staycation, so whether you're searching for a city break or a journey to the country, you can find what you're looking for here. You can visit bars and pubs, dine at one of the numerous traditional or foreign restaurants serving seasonal fare, and rest your head in a comfortable and outrageously fashionable room.
