Spean Bridge, A small village lying at the junction of the north-south A82 road through the Great Glen and the A86 going eastwards through Glen Spean.

Near the village is the Commando Memorial, a tribute to the strenuous training undergone by these men during the Second World war Close by, Glen Roy shows off its 'parallel roads', of Nature's making.

The origin of these parallel terraces goes back to the end of the last Ice Age, when a huge glacier, flowing northwards off the Ben Nevis massif, dammed up the outlets from the glens.

Mountain waters, flowing in from behind, formed deep lochs from which the 'parallel roads' formed the beaches.

As the ice retreated, or was more likely breached, the water level fell and new beaches were formed at successively lower levels.

The 'roads' stand out because of their different colouring: they have coarse grass or bent which is in contrast to the surrounding heather and bracken.

Spean Bridge is an ideal place for bed and breakfast due to it's location close to Fort William and the ski runs as well as all the other out door activities.
