Onich lies at the entrance of Loch Leven a sea Loch some 2.5 miles long to the west of north Ballachulish. The village is spread along the shore and roadside below steep hillsides.

Dr Alexander Stewart  a noted Gaelic scholar was minister here from 1851 to 1901 he was one of the founders of the Mod, a yearly gathering to foster Gaelic poetry and song, his monument is in the village.

Near the ferry you will find a monolith known as Clach a' Charra.
