Kyleakin is a village on Skye, the nearest inhabited spot on the island to the mainland, and the Skye end of the ferry over the short distance from Kyle of Lochalsh.
A touch of Skye's past is immediately discovered in the remains of Castle Moil, a miniature Highland keep, believed to have been built by the daughter of a Norse king who it is said, levied a toll from ships passing through tile straits between Skye and the mainland. Kyleakin undoubtedly owes its name to Norse origins. the 'akin' part of it coming from King Haakon, who sailed through the straits on his way to defeat, at the Battle of Largs.
