Elgol is a village on Skye at the tip of the most southerly peninsula here you command magnificent views, to the north are the Cuillins, and two the south the mountains of Rum the Isles of Canna, Eigg, and the west mainland with wild mountains all around as changeable as the weather, it is also a magnificent area for photographers with beautiful scenery.

The village is approached by Loch Coruisk a magical and mysterious Loch, set in the heart of the stunningly beautiful Cuillin mountains. Here you can take a boat trip visit the famous Seal colony as well as glimpsing a variety of other wild and sea life such as Dolphins, Basking Sharks, Whales and Puffins these have fascinated visitors for generations.

The Strathaird peninsula was historically a heartland of the Mackinnons Jacobite clan, On 4 July 1746, the Young Pretender found sanctuary at Elgol under the protection of Mackinnon of Mackinnon and Captain John Mackinnon of Elgol, here you will find a cave where it is said to have waited for a boat to the mainland it is known as Prince Charlie’s cave it can still be visited today, a short walk to the south of the village.
