It is now one of the most popular and important destinations in the Scottish Highlands, and it is situated on an island at the confluence of three large water lochs. The scenery surrounding the island is just breathtaking.

The community of Dornie features two hotels as well as a post office, and it is easily accessible by main highways coming from both Fort William and Inverness. Travelers coming from Fort William can take the A82 and the A87, while travellers coming from Inverness can take the A82 and the A887.

There are four trains that arrive in Kyle of Lochalsh every day from Inverness. There are buses leaving from and arriving in each of Glasgow and Edinburgh twice a day, and there are buses leaving from and arriving in Inverness three times a day.

The closest airport is located in Inverness, and in addition to other carriers like Flybe, Easy Jet offers flights there from Luton, Stansted, and Bristol.

The north side of the glen is formed by the famous Five Sisters range, Opposite is the South Glen Shiel Ridge offering seven Munros, East of Glen Shiel the mountains around Loch Cluanie.The Falls of Glomach near here have been said to be the most dramatic waterfalls in Britain. The area offers fine walking for all standards of ability with fantastic views on offer in one of the most beautiful parts of the highlands.

The surrounding loch's and mountain scenery are typical of the Scottish Highlands. For ramblers there are easy lochside and riverside walks. Dornie is a popular area for bird watchers and there is a good chance to see a golden eagle or the rare white tailed sea eagle, which breeds on Skye.

For the fishermen in you there are the local lochs full of wild brown trout, there is sea fishing trips by boats locally. Here you can find the quaint village of Plockton wear TV's Hamish Macbeth was filmed.
