Whilst visiting Arnol enjoy the activities on offer these range from the historical Black-houses to wonderful hikes. Although Arnol is inland nothing is far away including the lovely beaches with all the activities available.
Arnol between the Atlantic coast of Lewis and the road from Barvas some 3 miles and Carloway is also known as ‘Little Holland’ because of its many stone dykes. Here one of the traditional ‘black houses‘ or tigh dubh so called because they had no chimney and little other ventilation, or light is preserved as a museum, open all Weekdays. The area has a strong tie to crofting but in modern times provides a great place for the visitor looking for an active holiday with great beaches areas offering surfing, canoeing and fishing to wonderful walks through isolated rugged scenery. So if your looking for a place to enjoy an active vacation or even just to chill out Arnol could be the perfect place. You will find plenty of accommodation in the area offering Hotel, Guest House, Bed and Breakfast and Self Catering to choose from.
At nearby Bragar there is an enormous whale bone arch, some 20 ft high, with the harpoon which killed the whale hanging from its apex.
