Soay lsle of Skye with its village and natural harbour, lies just off the south west coast of Skye and is 3 miles by l mile across.

The island was used as a base for various shark fishing ventures after the Second World War, but in June 1953 this ended and all boats and services were withdrawn from the island.

As an outlying island, Soay always lacked a regular ferry service and received no public utility services such as electricity, piped water and sewerage.
