This is a atmospheric croft house, dating to the 1880s, left as the original owner left it at his death in 196o, the buildings are tucked away down a slope quite hidden, it feels like you are entering a time portal, the property was Lived in until 1963, when the Shetland Museum took it over.
Dank and dark inside complete with a charming actor tending his peat fire whilst smoking herrings, with the smell of peat from the fire place and a smoky fire, not to be missed, if the weather is horrible this is the best time to go and experience a peat fire under the thatch, allow about thirty minutes to an hour to soak up the atmosphere of previous generations.

Today the property gives people the chance to glimpse into the past of crofting life in the last century, it is the closest thing to time travel.
The volunteer on duty gives a detailed tour of the property and a excellent insight how life used to be like in Shetland and Orkney, well guided and very interesting.
The outside of the property is interesting as there are several unique buildings including a old boat that was repurposed as the roof of a storage hut and friendly Shetland ponies that came to the fence to be petted.
