Loch Nan Uamh Invernessshire is 4 miles long and is an offshoot of the Sound of Arisaig. It is famous for its associations with Prince Charles Edward Stuart, who landed here from the French frigate Doutelle on the 5 August 1745 and stayed for seven days at Borrodale house before going to Kinlochmoidart After Culloden during July 1746, he hid for some days in Glen Beasdale woods, and in a cave on the shore, before escaping to the Outer Hebrides. Finally, it was here that he boarded the French frigate L'Heureux on 20 Sept. and left Scotland for ever.

A memorial cairn was set up on the shore in 1956 by the Forty-Five Association.
