Loch Ewe is on the north-west coast of mainland not far from Gairloch, with a heritage Museum and Marine Life Centre offering daily cruises to see dolphins, whales and seals. you head for the village of Poolewe along the A835 on the Inverness Ullapool road turn right at Braemore Junction onto the A832 and follow the road to Poolewe.

The nearest train station to Loch Ewe is Achnasheen, The Loch is about 10 miles long with the Island of Ewe in the middle of it, In the Isle Of Ewe in the 16th century was said to be all wooded but nowadays the island is a working farm with the types of flora and fauna to be expected in such an environment, In 19th century the island was leased by its owner JIH MacDonald Buchanan to the Grant family who have lived there ever since. during both world wars the loch was an important navel depot on the east side of the Loch, It still has a fuel depot at its head and occasionally ships and even submarines come into the loch to fuel up.

Inverewe Gardens is at the head of this loch, it is a botanical garden, it was created in 1862 by Osgood Mackenzie on the 850 hectares estate bought for him by his mother.

There are many outdoor activities available locally, including mountaineering and hill walking, golf, pony trekking, fishing, sea life cruises and bird watching. A drive around the loch, from Cove on the west-side to Mellon Charles on the east-side is 17 miles, mostly on single track roads, you can be as active as you want to be here or just sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this rich diverse part of the Highlands.
