Berneray Visitor Information Guide

Berneray an island separated from north Uist by the Sound of Berneray, which is a few hundred yards wide, is about 3 miles by 1.5 miles.

It is said that a great many years ago only a small channel separated Berneray from Pabbay but in the l6th century exceptional tides swept away low-lying land on both sides, so that the channel between the sandy beaches on the two islands is nearly 2 mile wide.
