Benbecula with access by ferry or air with it's own small airport makes the area a great destination for visitors the area provides all types af accommodation and hospitality for holiday makers to enjoy. Benbecula geographically an island between north Uist and south Uist translatable as ‘the Mountain of the Fords‘, is nowjoined over those fords to its neighbours by a causeway northwards and a bridge southwards thanks to the wartime and post-war activities of the Royal Air Force and the Army, it is now possible to drive from the northernmost tip of north Uist to the southern end of south Uist on the A865, and thence to go by ferry to Eriskay and Barra The island is notably fiat, its only hill being Rueval (500 ft), from which there are splendid views northwards to Harris, southwards over south Uist, and eastwards over a maze of sea lochs and small islands.
