Naver visitor information guide

Naver Loch, Sutherland region is some five and half miles long and lies to the north east of Altnaharra with Ben Klibreck (2,367 ft) rising from the south shore.

On the north bank are Grummore and Grumbeg, the ruins of two depopulated early 19th-century crofting townships these are preserved as Ancient Monuments. The clearing of these townships in 1819 is described by Donald Sage in memorabilia domestica. Down the strath, which extends 19 miles to the sea at Bettyhill the land gets richer at Syre, where the Department of Agriculture has resettled land in small-holdings. Farther north at Skail, stands a stone commemorating the formation of the 93rd The Sutherland Highlanders in 1800 - famous as the 'Thin Red Line ' at Balaclava At Truderscaig and on the banks of the Mallart river flowing into the loch at the east end are remains of many hut and stone circles.
