Lochailort This hamlet is at the head of a sea loch of the same name on the 'Road to tile Isles', and is the centre of beautiful scenery. The best known bridle track ran to Kinlochmoidart via Glenuig, a hamlet on the peninsula.

This was one of the old 'coffin roads' routes for the long Highland burial processions of the past; it has now been superseded by a motor road.

Above Glenuig arc cairns and a cross showing the stopping places on the old routs. Just beyond Glenuig is Samalaman, which once housed a Catholic seminary founded in the 780s. and which moved to Lismore in 1804, and later to Blairs Aberdeen A potentially important sea-fish farming project.
