Loch an Eilein Visitor Information Guide

This outstandingly beautiful loch and 13th century island castle is in the Rothiemurchus forest itself within Glen More Forest Park.

The castle on the island in the loch is traditionally linked with the Wolf of Badenoch Alexander Stewart, natural son of Robert 11.

The blank wall facing the shore is the only one now surviving, but some towers remain and in one ospreys nested until about 1900; they have now returned to the district and nest near Boat of Garten and elsewhere.
