FORT WILLIAM TO FORT AUGUSTUS MOTORBIKE GPX KML TRACK

Overall Track Difficulty: Easy
Area Information:
Fort William to Fort Augustus About 4 miles from Fort William town centre off the A830, Is Banavie a village by the Caledonian Canal. There are a number of bed and breakfast, guest houses, self-catering and hotels. Banavie borders onto the village of Corpach. The scenery around Banavie is exceptional with Ben Nevis dominant in the skyline. The main villages are Spean Bridge, a village that takes its name from the High bridge over the River Spean on General Wade's military road between Fort William and Fort Augustus, with Roy Bridge and Torlundy with other small hamlets and scattered housing. The land is mostly rough moorland with small pockets of arable land given over mostly to forestry, sheep, deer stalking and some cattle farming. There is a good bus service to Inverness, Glasgow and Skye. There are railway stations at Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge, Tulloch and Corrour on the West Highland line with several trains per day to Glasgow on the 8pm sleeper to London. There is a reasonable local bus service to Fort William from Spean Bridge and a less frequent service from Roy Bridge. Fort Augustus, is about 27 miles via the A82, it is built on the site of an old fort, which was incorporated into the Benedictine Abbey in 1876, in the parish of Boleskine and Abertarff, at the south west end of Loch Ness the village is home to Neptune's Staircase, where to the north the canal enters the famous Loch Ness and into the village itself through a set of lock gates, with Visiting boats and yachts using the Loch gates to go up and down accessing both the upper and lower parts of the canal The Great Glen Way walk passes through the village as walkers take the old tow-path route back along the canal back from Fort Augustus to Gairlochy on their way to Loch Lochy and on to Fort William.
