Harlaw Aberdeenshire Some 3 miles north of Inverburie on the road that overlooks the north bank of the Ury is the Harlaw Monument a great red granite obelisk erected by the city of Aberdeen unveiled on 24 July l9l l the 500th anniversary of the "Red Harlaw’ the most bloody conflict ever fought in north east Scotland. The contestants in this conflict were Donald, Lord of the Isles, and the Earl of Mar, acting on behalf of the Government.
The pretext of the quarrel was at purely Feudal dispute. but there were Far wider issues involved, which are too complicated to be explained here.
