Turn right follow the road to the junction, Follow the North Coast 500 route to Ullupool, Through, Achnasheen, and Strathcarron, this route is a wild peninsula of Wester Ross, creating the impression that you are at the 'edge of the world, because of its wild inaccessibility, on a winding coast road from Shielding, to the north on Loch Torridon, via the Bealach na Ba an old Drovers road used to take cattle to market.

The road is one of the highest in Britain, reaching 2,053 ft, and heads into the clouds on Alpine hairpin bends, then drops down, to a truly stunning area of extravagant, breathtaking landscapes, lochs, mountain peaks and Mediterranean style beaches, from here there are incredible views out across the bay to Raasay and Skye.

Your NC500 journey will really begin to light your imagination as you drive, with so many beautiful sights, this is something I would recommend to everyone, the journey is incredible,

The area around Applecross is believed to be one of the earliest settled parts of Scotland.

The coastal settlement of Sand, just to the north of Applecross, is the location of a major archaeological site.

Drive through thriving communities with a vibrant culture stretching back thousands of years to the Neolithic ages.

From here you will drive through Sheilddaig, Torridon, Garloch, Poolewe, Aultbea and then to Ullapool, with Stornoway and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, just a short ferry ride away.

The weather is always important to take into consideration when you take a holiday in Scotland, the climate varies from one region to another.

It's often the case that you can drive along one half of a road in the rain to come out the other end in beautiful sunshine, and find that further along the conditions are completely different again.

The unpredictable nature of the climate means it's not uncommon to experience all four seasons in one day, from here the north coast 500 continues on up.
