Tarbet is a hamlet in Sutherland, on the west coast of Scotland. The village of Tarbet is near the island of Handa, home to a wildlife population, please note dogs are not allowed on Handa due to nesting birds. In this region you will find beautiful small lochs and rocky heather moorland, situated in the stunning unspoilt scenery, home to the the rock pigeon, which lives on the cliffs that surround the hamlet along with ravens and buzzards that fly over the area and an unlikely populations of house sparrows, robins and pied wagtails, it is the nearest port to the Scottish Wildlife Trust's national nature reserve of Handa Island, and has a small ferry that operates between the two, there is the mile-long beach, Am Buachaille, a sea stack, that lies about 5 miles south of Cape Wrath, behind the bay's large dunes, stretches to the Sandwood Loch, a freshwater loch full of brown trout, though remote with no road access, the bay is easily reached by a 4-mile long, yet well-trodden and fairly flat, path leading from the gravel car park at the hamlet of Blairmore.
