Visiting Trues Yard Fisherfolk Museum
Trues Yard Fisherfolk Museum, The True Measurement The Fisherfolk Museum can be found in King's Lynn, Norfolk, and it is a museum that focuses on the social history of the area. The North End Museum in King's Lynn is an independent museum that recounts the story of the community's history as a fishing port. The museum is located at the North End. A financial backing was supplied by a number of people, including the late Bernard Matthews.
Because of the challenges they had to face, they supported one another in times of need, rarely married outside of the North End, and took care of their widows and orphans. While the men sailed up to 100 miles away to bring in the fish, the women were responsible for taking care of the children, waiting, praying, and repairing the nets.
Although King's Lynn is still home to a fishing fleet, the town has long since passed through its most prosperous years. In the North End of King's Lynn, there was once a thriving fishing hamlet that stood in stark contrast to the opulent houses that were owned by the city's wealthy merchants. The North End was known for its quaint cottages and cobbled yards.

The only pair of fishing houses from the 18th century that have survived and been restored have been converted into an interesting museum that chronicles the history of fishing in King's Lynn as well as the difficult existence of the North End neighbourhood. The museum is located in one of the houses.
William True, who purchased the property in 1818, is being recognised for his contribution by having a yard named after him. The cottages served as the location of not just a bakery but also a general store in addition to the lodgings for the sailors. In the 1980s, the buildings were in poor condition and faced the prospect of being demolished if a community trust did not intervene to rescue them and convert them into a museum and heritage resource centre. Fortunately, the trust did step in and save the structures.
The foundations of earlier buildings were used in the construction of cottages that were built in the 1790s. In 1937, an additional four homes were taken down due to demolition. Oil lamps and coal fires were used to maintain a comfortable temperature in the residences. The fact that there was no running water or electricity was a significant nuisance. Additionally, there was no bathroom, which meant that used toiletries had to be flushed down the drain.
The fishermen's cottages, which have been restored, have been painstakingly preserved so that visitors may get a sense of what life was like for the fishermen and their families. The 1850s, when an extended family of 11 people considered one house their home, has been recreated inside of another house.
Brick flooring is an eye-catching and unique element. Before being washed out into the yard, the catch of the day was processed on the floor by having its guts removed and being sorted. There's a good chance the cottages had a putrid odour. Due to the fact that there was only one bed, as many as six young children were forced to share it.
