The administrative and commercial hub of the Highlands, Inverness You will be able to discover something that fits both your requirements and your budget, whether you are looking for a quaint bed and breakfast or a hotel with rooms that can accommodate up to two parents and four children.
After leaving Inverness, travel north on the A9 and take the third exit at the Tore roundabout when you arrive there. You will need to keep travelling straight until you reach the exit that is marked "Skiach Services, Ardgay & Lairg," then you will need to take that exit and join onto the A9 in the direction that is marked "Ardgay." When you get to the end of the road in Ardross, take a left turn to continue on your journey toward Ardgay and, ultimately, Bonar Bridge, which is situated on the northern banks of the Kyle of Sutherland. Dornoch Academy is where the area's secondary school kids go to get their education, while the facility that the town provides for its primary and preschool students is where they get their education. In addition to shops and eateries, the neighbourhood also features a post office and a library. A golf club and a nine-hole course may be found in the community of Bonar Bridge. There is a diverse selection of places to stay in the neighbourhood, ranging from a hotel decked out in the accoutrements of highland hospitality culture and senary to a quaint family-run bed and breakfast to a self-catering cottage that can accommodate any size family or group of friends on a grand adventure to a private home on a hill or beach that is ideal for a couple. If you are a fisherman, you will be pleased to learn that you have the opportunity to fish for salmon as well as trout at this location. Dornoch, Tain, and the city of Inverness all offer convenient transportation throughout Scotland and beyond through aircraft to the United Kingdom, the Scottish Islands, and the rest of Europe. Inverness is also a hub for international flights to and from Scotland.

Take the exit labelled "Lairg," continue right via Invershin and Lairg, and then follow the signs to Tongue. Tongue can be found on the A836 along the eastern coast of the Kyle of Tongue, to the north of the mountains Ben Hope and Ben Loyal.

At the T-intersection in Tongue, follow the signs for Bettyhill and Thurso to Tongue. This journey takes in some of the most stunning coastline scenery and historic landmarks that Scotland has to offer. Discover a hotel in the North West of Sutherland that is considered to be one of the last great scenic jewels in Europe. This hotel is tucked away in a Highland ravine on the banks of the beautiful River Borgie.

Tongue, beautiful gem of a Sutherland village, on the eastern shore of the Kyle of Tongue, giving some welcome relief from the desolation of moors to the south. Its ancient lineage is evidenced by the ruins of Castle Varrich, thought to have been a Norse stronghold. Tongue House nearby dates from the I7th century and was the seat of the Clan Mackay chiefs. The attractive parish church has a Laird's Loft worth seeing. The area around Tongue has many archaeological sites indicating its attraction for human habitation for at least 2000 years. The village and parish of Tongue (sometimes called Kirkiboll) is on the east side of the Kyle of Tongue some 31 miles north of Lairg. The road runs along the west shore of Loch Royal between the water and Ben Loyal.

Tongue House was the home of the chiefs of Mackay, but the estates were sold by the 7th Lord Reay in 1829 to the Duke of Sutherland. Tongue House is a pleasant building, sheltered by trees and with a sundial in the garden, dated 1714. The motto of the Mackays, Mamlyforti, appears on one of three pediments built into the wall of the dining-room the over mantel bears the Mackay arms. The Lords Reay became Dutch citizens, but returned earlier this centuary to re-adopt British citizenship.

Tongue, nestled in the heart of Sutherland, is a serene escape that beautifully encapsulates the essence of Scotland's untouched landscapes. My visit to this Highland gem was nothing short of enchanting.

🏰 Castle Varrich: The ancient ruins overlooking the Kyle of Tongue offer breathtaking panoramic views, weaving history into the stunning landscape.

🌊 Kyle of Tongue: This sea loch, with its tranquil shores, is a canvas of serenity, perfect for leisurely strolls and moments of quiet contemplation.

🏔️ Ben Loyal: Known as the "Queen of Scottish Mountains," the challenging trails reward with majestic vistas, making it a hiker's paradise.

🌲 Nature's Embrace: From Lairg's tranquility to the captivating Falls of Shin, Tongue's surroundings remain unspoiled havens for nature lovers.

💫 Local Charm: Bettyhill's coastal allure and the Strathy Point Lighthouse are hidden treasures, each adding a unique touch to this Highland experience.

Tongue in Sutherland isn't just a destination; it's a tapestry of history, nature, and tranquility woven into Scotland's soul. A visit here is an immersion into the untouched beauty of the Highlands that leaves an indelible mark. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨
