Known as the Dunnottar Castle Coastal Trail, this path may be found along the coast and connects Stonehaven and Dunnottar Castle. It provides stunning views of the North Sea as well as the craggy cliffs and the castle itself. The trail has a total distance of around 3.2 kilometres (about 2 miles), and while most of it is flat and easy to walk on, certain parts of it are quite steep.

Fowlsheugh Nature Reserve is well-known for the remarkable seabird colonies that can be found there. These colonies include razorbills, guillemots, and puffins, to name a few. The reserve is located to the south of Stonehaven. Birdwatching and taking in the beautiful landscape of the seaside are both possible thanks to the many walking routes and observation platforms that are located along the coast.

Walk from Stonehaven to Cowie: This coastal walk begins at Stonehaven and ends in the neighbouring community of Cowie. The distance of this walk is approximately 6.4 kilometres (4 miles). It is a wonderful opportunity to take in the splendour of the surrounding area as it provides breathtaking views of the ocean and the shoreline.

Cliff Walks: The cliffs in the vicinity of Dunnottar Castle and all along the shoreline offer a plethora of options for spectacular walks and treks. These trails provide some of the most breathtaking panoramas in the region and can be customised to meet your requirements in terms of the distance covered and the level of difficulty.

The Bervie Waterfall Walk is located a short distance from Stonehaven and is characterised by its trek through a forested region to a waterfall that is rich in natural beauty. This is a route that is not too difficult and is suitable for families.

Dunnottar Woods: These woods, which are located close to Dunnottar Castle, include a number of routes that wind through the surrounding forest. You won't have a hard time completing the hikes, and you'll get to take in the serene and beautiful scenery along the way.

The Cowie to Gourdon Coastal Path is a longer stretch of coastline that runs from the town of Cowie to the neighbouring community of Gourdon. Along the way, it travels through picturesque coastal scenery and settlements of fishermen.

This long-distance path is known as the Mearns Coastal Path, and it travels along the coastline of Aberdeenshire, including the region around Stonehaven. You can pick and choose which parts of the path to visit while taking in the breathtaking vistas of the coast.

Inland Walks: In addition to the coastal walks, the countryside of Aberdeenshire features an abundance of inland routes and tracks that provide access to the region's hilly terrain, agricultural lands, and densely wooded areas.
