Foyers lies beside Loch Ness, but not on the very busy western side instead Foyers lies about a third of the way up the loch's eastern shore about 21 miles from Inverness offering accommodation to suite all pockets from Bed and Breakfast, Hotels, Hostels and self catering properties.

Britain's first hydro electric scheme was installed here in 1896 for the aluminium works at the mouth of the river, it closed in 1968, it was taken over by the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board who installed the turbines to utilize water from Loch Mhor 600 feet up into the hills, The Foyers fall power station during off-peak times supplies surplus electricity from the National Grid is used to pump water from Loch Ness up to Loch Mhor this is a man made reservoir linking the two natural lochs the water can then be released to turn turbines and generate electricity at times of peak usage. 100 cubic metres of water will pass through each of the two huge turbine generators.
