Embo village Scottish Highland Embo & Inverness is 46.2 miles by car about an hours drive, This is a village on the outer Dornoch Firth it has become a popular holiday destination with a large caravan park and excellent facilities for water sport's.

Embo was a battle site against Danish invaders at the Battle of Embo in the mid thirteenth-century. Sir Richard de Moravia died in this battle, today the much-defaced tomb of Richard de Moravia lies in Dornoch Cathedral. Sir Richard is believed to have been a brother of the founder of the cathedral, Gilbert de Moravia. On 16 July 1988, Embo declared itself independent from the rest of the United Kingdom for one day, this was done to raise funds to convert the unused primary school in the village into a community centre. The village issued its own currency, called the Cuddie the rate of exchange is 2 cuddies to the pound.

Cuddies were accepted in the local pub the Grannies Heilan' Hame, in exchange for a measure of Clynelish Malt Whisky, The owners of the distillery in nearby Brora sponsored the bid for independence by issuing a commemorative label on 50 cases of Clynelish Malt Whisky "The Spirit of Free Embo" There are many places of historical interest and the well-known championship golfing centre at Dornoch.

There are good path's along the shore, with walk's along the sandy beach the broad beach stretches north from the village of Embo to the mouth of the River Fleet, behind the beach there is a network of paths through the high sand dunes, a good place to see the spectacular burnet rose, local wildlife and take in the fantastic views, There is free parking overlooking the beach at the north east corner of the village and facilities that include toilets and a shops nearby.
