The Fonthill Gifford area offers a variety of lodgings, including hotels, as well as self-catering houses and cottages, for those who wish to take advantage of the area's amenities. The hamlet, in addition to its beautiful surroundings, offers a range of economical accommodation alternatives, including high-end hotels, affordable bed & breakfasts, and furnished apartment rentals. Tourism and business visitors alike will find a wide choice of recreational and commercial opportunities in Fonthill Gifford, as in the other towns and villages around the county of Wiltshire.

Fonthill Abbey, one of England's most outstanding structures in the early nineteenth century, was built on Fonthill Gifford some 22 kilometres west of Salisbury.
The parish is distinguished from its neighbour Fonthill Bishop by the surname of its 12th-century rulers, Fonthill Gifford. In the 15th and 16th centuries, they were known as Nether Fonthill and Over Fonthill, respectively.
Fonthill Gifford's northern boundary, which separated it from Berwick St. Leonard, Chicklade, and Hindon, originally part of East Knoyle, was delineated by a tributary of the Nadder, which was often dry west of Berwick St. Leonard in the late twentieth century. The same stream constituted the northern portion of the eastern boundary with Fonthill Bishop and Tisbury, but the boundary was buried when the stream was dammed to create a lake, which was later extended, presumably before 1539. The boundary with Tisbury runs west and south of the lake and follows a route that may have been on its current path between the 11th and 14th centuries. The western boundary with East Knoyle was marked in the north by stones that are still visible, and further south by a little road, but except from where it follows the contours of Beacon Hill, Fonthill Gifford's southern boundary with Tisbury is marked by no notable landmark.
