Exploring Crawley in Hampshire, which is situated between the Test and the ltchen valleys, has all the beauty of an English village and may have been as the inspiration for Thackeray's Queen's Crawley in Vanity Fair.
It is a tiny town with only one street flanked by residences from various centuries and dotted with thatched wooden built cottages. The village was intended as a whole and belonged to Crawley Court until 1931, when it was restored in Elizabethan style in the nineteenth century. There's a school, an inn, and a town hall made of chalk that was formerly a barn. Other structures feature chalk walls as well, although most homes are made of brick and flint.
The Early English church is made of flint and rubble, with the chancel renovated in 1887. The wooden arcades in the nave, on the other hand, are possibly 13th century, while the chancel arch is Early English and the pillars of this arch are Norman.
