Your Guide To Elphin Holiday Accommodation

The mountains here are dramatic with the peaks of the Canisp, Suilven and Cul Mor, there are two Munros, mountains over 3000 feet Ben More Assynt & Conival, 17 Corbetts mountains between 2500 and 3000 feet high, with at least 500 feet of descent on all sides these marvellous peaks are amongst the oldest in the world and instil a sense wonder and magic, ideal for walkers and climbers, The Highland Ranger Service has a programme of graded walks for all ages and abilities. Elphin also has some excellent hill loch fishing.

There are caves here that were excavated in 1889 by the geologists Peach and Horne, they found the remains of animals which once roamed the Highlands including lynx, polar bear, arctic fox and lemmings. Through the excavation they found that the caves may have once sheltered these animals as well as the people that hunted them.

There is a visitor centre a unique open-sided construction with a turf roof it explains the local geology and how it has shaped the landscape we see today. There are hands on displays and a touch screen computer for visitors to explore. There are also marked trails around the reserve for you to explore offering various pieces of rock art and sculptures to be viewed. From Inverness it is 70 miles about one and a half hours drive via the A837.

To find the Inchnadamph Bone Caves, which are tucked away on a hillside to the east of the main road, take the road that is located to the north of Elphin.

You can bring your family or a group of friends with you as you make your way through the several sorts of glen that lead up to the cave entrances on the rock face.
