On the seaward side of the village is Balconie house built on the site of an old fortress for the Earl of Ross Situated at the edge of Evanton To the west is Evanto wood with the fascinating Black Rock Gorge a magical deep and narrow cleft in old red sandstone conglomerate through which the Allt Graad flows in Easter Ross, a few hundred meters in length and reaches 36 metres (120 feet) in height, it was caused by rapids heavily burdened with sediment being carried upwards as part of the great Post-glacial rebound.

There is a local Gaelic myth, in which the Lady of Balconie is lured into her depths by a mysterious man, thought to be the Devil ever since then the cries from the lady can be heard from the top. Here you can find Fyrish Hill 1478 feet high and at its summit is the large, unusual Fyrish Monument from the top weather permitting there are extensive views in all directions to include the Cairngorms, Ben Wyvis, the Affric and Fannich Ranges and the Cromarty Firth. Sir Hector Munro of Novar had the monument built in 1792 to provide work for unemployed workers in the area, you can reach it from the small car park, that climbs steadily to the summit, first through pine forest and then across open moorland.

There is a ruined church in Kiltearn, Evanton that is thought to have been constructed in the early 1700’s, replacing a medieval building, there is a ancient burial ground here Just past the church, you can walk over the wooden bridge which spans the Skiach River from here you can walk beside the river to the Village and back across the bridge, The beach it has magnificent views across the Cromarty Firth, you can take a leisurely stroll along the shore spot wildlife on this scenic route, this is a good walk for ramblers it will that take around an hour at a leisurely pace.
