Visiting Cardoness Castle

Cardoness Castle, Near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway is a place called Cardoness Castle. It is a simple but remarkable tower house that was long held by the turbulent MacCulloch family. It is located in a prominent site and its inside was formerly cosy.
Cardoness Castle is a well-preserved tower house that was built in the 15th century and is located in the historical county of Kirkcudbrightshire in Scotland, just to the south-west of Gatehouse of Fleet. The MacCulloch family from Myreton was the original family to own it.
You can admire the exquisite architectural detail of this still magnificent structure at Cardoness Castle, including the splendid fireplace and wall-cupboard where the family's best silverware was displayed. You can also touch the intricate stone carvings and take in the superb views over the beautiful Fleet Bay to the Solway Firth beyond. Cardoness Castle is a well-preserved ruin. In addition to that, there is a brand new scale model, as well as an incredible exhibition.
From the entryway, one can proceed via a mural-decorated lobby to reach a guardroom and then a turnpike stair that rises to the top of the building. In addition to the vaulted ceiling and two rooms that make up the basement, there is a claustrophobic pit prison that spans two stories. The hall on the first floor features a large fireplace with intricate moulding as well as finely carved cupboards. From the turnpike stair, a straight stair leads up to the second level, where there are two rooms, both of which have exquisite fireplaces. From the very top of the tower, one can get some nice views.
