Biddenden, which can be found in the county of Kent in the southeast of England, is a village that exemplifies the traditional English village. The village is filled of latticed windowed Flemish weavers cottages that span the full length of the south side of the High street. The High street is lined on both sides by fossilised stone quarried a very long time ago from nearby Bethersden, which is where the village gets its name (Bethersden marble).

The community is well-known not only for its picturesque street, but also for a particularly lovely sign that depicts a set of twins known as the Biddenden Maids. This sign was carved and painted by a local craftsman and stands on the village green.

According to local legend, The Biddenden Maids were actually two sets of identical twin sisters who were born in the year 1100 and were physically united at the shoulders and hips. Local records show that for over 400 years, income gained from 20 acres of land, Believed to have been bequeathed by two sisters, and had been used for the benefit of the poor of the parish ever since. The story describes how Elisa and Mary Chulkhurst lived in this condition for 34 years, then one died. The other, being impossible for her to be separated from her sister's body, died shortly afterwards. The story also describes how Elisa and Mary Chulkhurst lived in this condition for 34 (such an Amazing Story)

As a memento of the event, A Biddenden Biscuits, which are made from flour and water and baked together, are given out to the audience members. On each biscuit is an image of two female figures whose bodies are connected together at the hips and shoulders.
