It was founded in 1922 by a group of local enthusiasts, the museum tells the story of this mountainous region and its people the most renowned and unusual collection relates to Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite cause.
The museum has seven rooms on three floors, with an extensive collection of exhibits including the eighteenth century "secret portrait" of Bonnie Prince Charlie, and a royalty collection of Victoriana, including the regalia gifted by Queen Victoria to her favourite servant, John Brown, the museum also holds a wealth of curious and fascinating collections relating to less well-known aspects of the lives of the people of the West Highlands.
