Searching Hambledon Hill Holiday Accommodation Guide for information on visiting Hambledon Hill, a lonely, grass-covered chalk hill in Dorset, is worth hiking for more than simply its enormous earthworks, which were built for defence during different periods between the Stone Age and the Roman occupation. Because its slopes are too steep for both the plow and the crowds, it is a natural haven for butterflies, notably the magnificent marbled-white, and little birds, and the vista from the...

Gold Hill Museum and Garden Holiday Accommodation Guide

Gold Hill Museum and Garden,

The Gold Hill Museum and Garden may be found on top of Gold Hill, a picturesque neighbourhood that is well-known for its steep slopes and its charming homes. On top of the hill, countless calendars, including the legendary "Boy on a Bike" advertisement for Hovis, which was directed by Ridley Scott in 1973, were filmed.

The Gold Hill Museum is housed in a pair of buildings that date back to the 19th century. Both of these structures have had interesting lives in the past: one of them was once the home of a priest and had a "squint" through the wall that led to St. Peter's Church, and the other one served as simple housing for merchants who frequented the Gold Hill Market. Both of these buildings are located on Gold Hill. The peaceful garden, which has won multiple awards, is the ideal spot for some peace and quiet thought with a spectacular view of Thomas Hardy's Blackmore Vale. The garden is a winner of multiple awards.

The history of Shaftesbury and its surrounding region is displayed in six light and large galleries that are split across two stories. These galleries begin with the time before Alfred the Great constructed the town and Abbey. There is also a magnificent collection of lacework and costumes, handcrafted Dorset buttons, and a mummified Dorset cat in addition to the oldest fire engine in Dorset, which goes back to 1744. The one-of-a-kind Byzant is paraded around during the annual celebrations that take place in honour of the town's success in ensuring its water supply, which is extremely significant for a settlement located on a hill.

Your visit to the Gold Hill Museum won't cost you a thing, although gifts are always welcome and very much appreciated. Access for wheelchair users and visitors using strollers is provided in every one of our rooms, including the two that are used for revolving exhibits as well as the Education Room.

We have an Explorer's Quiz and activity baskets available in Rooms 2 and 4 specifically for the younger audience. There are six Dorset Button Mice tucked away in the exhibition cases, and they are simply waiting to be found by visitors of all ages who are inquisitive about them. Visitors are encouraged to examine the selections in our used book area while they shop for books and other things created in the local area that are sold at the Museum Store. The café that is closest to the museum entrance is only twenty yards away, and all of the other cafes, coffee shops, and bars on High Street can be reached in approximately two minutes.
