I went in for a supper before a concert and reserved a table in advance - I didn't need to because there was just one other couple dining there. Arrived on time, however the restaurant was austere and uninviting in its appearance. There was no one to greet us, but a sign that read 'find a table and order at the bar' did the trick. It was necessary to go to the bar in order to obtain a menu because there was none on the table. In actuality, there was nothing on the tables to speak of.
We settled on Fish & Chips and a Beefburger for dinner. When it came time to order, one out of every four staff members behind the bar were interacting with clients. When two members of the staff ended their conversation, they approached me and asked what I would want. When I said that I'd like to order food, she informed me that I'd have to go to the other end of the bar (there were no signs indicating this). I accompanied her to the other end of the line, where I placed my order as well as beverages. Cutlery and napkins were placed in a metal container (small bucket), together with a wooden spoon labelled with a number, and I was given them.
It didn't take long for the meal to be brought, and the waiter was pleasant, helpful, and efficient throughout the process. He inquired as to if we required anything more and stated that salt and pepper were in the bucket (which they were not). He returned with salt, pepper, and a variety of other condiments.
The fish was of a reasonable size, and it had a pleasant flavour. Even though the beef burger was good, the lettuce was limp and soggy, the slaw (served in a small dish) had clearly been sitting out for a long time because it had become slightly hard on top, and the 'chunky chips' were like the cheap frozen budget chips from the supermarket - definitely not freshly cut.
This used to be a wonderful restaurant, but it is now a dump with lousy service and poor value for money. I will eat somewhere else before a performance in the future because this was nowhere near decent value for money at roughly £35
