Dunskey Castle Holiday Accommodation & Reviews

Dunskey Castle,

Following Dunskey Castle Holiday Accommodation & Reviews will lead you to a ruined tower house or castle dating back to the 12th century, Dunskey Castle can be found on the south-west coast of Scotland, around 0.8 kilometres (0.5 miles) south of the settlement of Portpatrick in Rhinns, Wigtownshire. The spectacular ruins of Dunskey Castle are positioned in a picture-perfect setting on a rocky outcrop that juts out into the Irish Sea.

The large towerhouse was constructed around the middle of the 16th century for the Adairs of Kinhilt, who were also the owners of the Castle of St. John in Stranraer. The long wing to the north of the structure wasn't erected until the 1620s. By the year 1700, the entire structure had fallen into disrepair.

The only remnant of an older version of Adair Castle is the defensive ditch that may be found on the landward side. The McCullochs of Myrton and Cardoness were responsible for the destruction of this castle in the year 1500. It was first mentioned in the 14th century.

On the path that leads from Portpatrick to the coast, you'll find Dunskey Castle. The interior of the castle is unfortunately inaccessible in any way. It is important to use caution when visiting this location because the cliffs are precipitous and hazardous, and it is recommended that you remain on the route at all times.
