Cairnwell Pass Visitor Information Guide

Cairnwell Pass, This part of the route between Blairgowrie and Braemar on the A93 takes its name from the hill of 3,059 ft that dominates the west side of the pass.

lt is the highest main road in Britain rising to a maximum altitude of 2,199 ft.

Constructed in the mid 18th century by one of General Wade's military successors, it has changed little in direction since that date.

It is rather narrow for modern traffic and is liable to be blocked by snow in the winter.

The area is popular with skiers and hill walkers, the track over the Monega Pass to Glen Isla being one of the highest rights of way in the country. with at summit of 3,318 ft above sea level.
