Aberdour Castle, The Scottish community of Easter Aberdour is home to the castle of the same name. Aberdour is, along with Castle Sween in Argyll, one of Scotland's oldest datable standing castles, with parts of the structure dating back to roughly 1200.
The fortified residence known as Aberdour Castle was initially constructed by the Douglas family in the 13th century and underwent expansion in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries.
During the summer, you may take a guided tour of the entire castle, including the painted ceiling in the east range, which is a priceless relic dating back to the early 17th century.
Only a portion of the ground floor, including the tearoom, the walled garden, and the upper terrace to the south of the castle, is open to visitors. Access is restricted. Because there is a set of turnpike stairs leading up to the upper floors and terraces, these areas are not accessible to guests who use wheelchairs or who have poor mobility.
Access to the gardens and grounds may be challenging for tourists using wheelchairs due to the gravel paths leading there; nevertheless, access is achievable with help and for people who are more mobile. There are restrooms, including disabled-accessible restrooms, available.
Playing it's part in Outlander, The Old Kitchen and the Long Gallery in Aberdour Castle were selected to serve as the location for the French monastery of Sainte Anne de Beaupré, which is where Jamie seeks refuge.
Outlander is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed time-travel romance and fantasy adventure novels written by Diana Gabaldon, who is an American author. The story follows the adventures of Caitriona Balfe's character, Claire Randall, who is a married English army nurse living in the year 1945. While on her second honeymoon in Inverness, she is mysteriously transported back in time to the Scottish Highlands in the year 18th century. When she gets there, she meets Jamie, a brave young warrior who is represented by Sam Heughan, and the two quickly fall completely in love with each other.
