Fishing Lewis and Harris Visitors Guide

The Hebrides have over 4,000 lochs and lochans and a large number of rivers with access to the sea. Most Salmon catches are in the 7 to 10 lbs. range and Brown trout catches are also of a good range.

Fishing holidays in the Outer Hebrides are a popular choice with both sea and game anglers.

Fishing lochs on the Islands range from barely 40 yards wide to the seven-mile long Loch Langavat with its 28 miles of shoreline, while sea fishing in the Outer Hebrides can be either shore based or from one of the many Western Isles fishing charters serving our Scottish islands.

Lewis and Harris have some of the finest Salmon and Trout fishing anywhere in Scotland.

There is game angling offering some of the best summer salmon and trout fishing in Europe, with many opportunities to catch Arctic char, brown trout, sea trout and wild salmon in the Western Isles.

Fishing breaks in the Hebrides provide an opportunity to experience a wide range of Scottish Island fishing environments, from the vast peat moor lands of Lewis with its infinite inlets and inland waters, the rugged mountains of Harris with numerous hill lochs, boulder strewn burns and rivers, to the sea-pools of North Uist, the machair lochs of South Uist and the brown trout waters of Barra

The best time for fishing wild salmon is between June and September and the best conditions are when the rivers are in spate after heavy rain, or, during spring tides.
